Carl P. Meyer awarded Hire Heroes USA 2008 Pacesetter Award

In recognition of his initiative, conviction, personal investment and unique yet significant contributions, Hire Heroes USA proudly and humbly presented the 2008 Pacesetter Award to Carl P. Meyer at the recent MedAssets Healthcare Business Summit in Las Vegas.     Carl, Vice President of National Accounts & Distributor Relations with BSN medical Inc., elected in July of 2008 to celebrate Independence Day and show his respect for the service and sacrifice of the men and women of our Armed Forces by hosting the “100 Holes for Our Heroes” golf event benefiting Hire Heroes USA.  The novel fundraiser, held on July 4th at Chenequa Country Club in Hartland, WI, was planned and executed by Carl himself and featured an attempt by the longtime golfer to play 100 holes of golf in a single day.

Funds were raised through Carl’s solicitation of both flat donations and pledges per hole played.  His golf cart decorated with American flags and his brother, Chris, serving as caddy, the 100 Holes event got underway when Carl first teed off at 5:45 am on July 4th. Clocking in at 12 hours and 50 minutes for six rounds, Carl met and surpassed his goal, playing 108 total holes.  For the 100 Holes, he recorded 7 birdies, 29 pars, 44 bogies and 20 scores to which he’ll jokingly refer as “other.”

Carl will be the first to point out that it’s not his stats which matter.  From the day he initially approached Hire Heroes USA with the 100 Holes concept, Carl focused steadfastly on the accomplishment of two objectives: to raise money in support of HHUSA’s veteran career placement services and to increase the visibility of HHUSA and its mission.   carlmeyerThe outcome of the 100 Holes for Our Heroes event far exceeded all expectations.  In addition to securing over 100 donations and pledges totaling upwards of $15,000, Carl and his event for HHUSA were featured in numerous print publications and TV news broadcasts.

Carl recently announced the 2nd Annual 100 Holes for Our Heroes event to be held July 4, 2009.   Raising his own bar, the ‘09 event will expand to be national in scope, looking to involve corporate sponsors and feature new fundraising innovations such as the Virtual Caddy concept.  The Virtual Caddie Cocept allows supporters to spread the message of 100 Holes for Our Heroes benefiting Hire Heroes USA to their personal network, to help in communicating the unique opportunity for employers (no fees to participate) and for our Veterans (an opportunity to live the American dream) as well as a fund raising component to help support Hire Heroes USA. For additional information on the 2009 100 Holes for Our Heroes event, to contribute, or to become a Virtual Caddy or corporate sponsor, please visit www.hireheroesusa.org.

The HHUSA team again extends its deepest gratitude to Carl Meyer.  Remarkable individual efforts such as this are inspirations and true gifts.
