3rd Annual 100 Holes for Our Heroes

Marine Staff Sergeant John Matter to attend and participate in this year’s event

Over $20,000 committed to date

For the third year in a row, golfer Carl Meyer, Vice President of BSN medical, Inc. will attempt to play at least 100 holes of golf to benefit Hire Heroes USA. This year, Meyer will be joined for part of the day by one of the veterans that Hire Heroes USA is working to place into a new job as he transitions from his military career to a job in the civilian workforce. Staff Sergeant John Matter a Marine Sniper and recipient of three Purple Hearts will ride along with Meyer for part of the day. 100 Holes for Our Heroes has always had two major functions, raising awareness for the four year old charities mission and raising money that will directly help place veterans like Staff Sergeant Matter into their first civilian job.

Staff Sergeant Matter in the course of his six tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan was the number two in charge and essentially ran the operational side of his unit on a daily basis. Staff Sergeant Matter, lead his men into battle and put his life on the line, being shot 9 times on three different occasions to protect injured men of his. On a daily basis Staff Sergeant Matter also ensured that his Marines had all of the necessary food, ammunition and other provisions to perform their mission. Staff Sergeant Matter is a leader and professional who is relocating to the Milwaukee area where he grew up to join his wife, a teacher in Special Education and their two young sons. He is looking to take the unique skills that he developed in the Marines and apply then in a leadership role as part of a team of people in a growing Milwaukee area firm.

Staff Sergeant Matter is an example of the high caliber individuals that have served their country with honor and which Hire Heroes USA strives to help find the right opportunity for civilian employment once they have completed their military career. It costs Hire Heroes USA roughly $2,000 per veteran to place these high quality individuals into these initial civilian jobs. There is no charge to the veteran or the employer for these services which is why this year’s goal has been set at $100,000 allowing Hire Heroes USA to place an additional veteran a week for the next year.
