ALPHARETTA, GA (June 29, 2012) —Longtime golfer Carl Meyer will spend July 4th attempting to play 100 holes of golf in a single day in order to raise awareness of and funds for Hire Heroes USA, an organization that helps unemployed veterans find jobs. Carl will be assisted by Staff Sergeant John Matter, the recipient of three Purple Hearts, Jerry Welsh from Hire Heroes USA and his brother, Chris Meyer. This is the 5th annual fundraiser to support America’s veterans and he has already raised over $53,000 in contributions for this year’s event. Carl’s goal is to raise $70,000+ this year.
“Every year I look forward to attempting this challenge to show my great gratitude for the men and women that volunteer to serve our nation,” said Carl Meyer, Vice President of National Accounts & Distributor Relations with BSN Medical. “There are far too many freedoms to list which we take for granted that are all a direct result of the efforts and sacrifices of our military and their families and this small effort of mine is a way to raise awareness and money towards the employment of veterans through Hire Heroes USA.”
The event will be held at Chenequa Country Club in Chenequa, WI and you are still able to donate to the event. Over the past four years Carl has raised $180,000 for Hire Heroes USA, which is responsible for over 550 placements of veterans during the past 5 years. Hire Heroes USA in now placing one veteran a day into their first civilian job as a result of the Warrior Transition Workshops that teach job placement skills and are funded through this event. Funds from this years event will provide over 400 veterans with the opportunity to attend the workshops and improve their job search skills.
“The current economic climate has resulted in a staggering unemployment rate that deeply affects military veterans, especially those who are injured,” said Brian Stann, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hire Heroes USA. “Even in a good economy, veterans are challenged to transition their skills to the private sector. Our challenge now is that our resources are under strain, and we need more people like Carl Meyer to help us raise awareness for this need.”
